At Axkid's safety conference on Thursday the brand new ONE 4 was shown. An awesome multi-stage seat which slaughters everything on the market. BUT… Everyone seems to have missed the major “news” which was hidden at the far end. Let's call it “Axkid ONE 5”, a premium rear facing seat which would kill in Sweden/EU.

We are looking at a rear facing seat with belt installation to 36 kg, Plus Test, ultra fast installation, adjustable leg space and change of sleep position while driving.

Installation with seat belt and change of sleep position while driving is extremely rare. BeSafe Stretch and the very old Maxi-Cosi Mobi are basically the only seats providing this sought after feature. 

Video shows nothing secret and the version of ONE 3 in US which was recently released. In US, the FVMSS 213 standard is used, similar to our R129 but still different. Self-certification, sled at the crash lab has no floor which does not allow for support leg (crash test without leg), LATCH is often used together with top tether, etc.

ONE 3 in the fantastic USA was recently launched and will be a great success. At the event I surprisingly saw zero people looking at or asking about the US version despite a nice presentation by Holly and Jamie.

The US version can be installed with LATCH/Isofix but installation with seat belt is also a requirement. A potential seat in Sweden/EU could only be installed with seat belt as the R129 regulation prohibit both together.

I have been working on product development together with several manufacturers for many years. Everything that is discussed is of course top secret. I have no inside information that a ONE 3 with belt installation is coming to Sweden/EU but it’s a logical conclusion since the seat is “basically ready”.

Remove Isofix, include the "hooks" from the US version, add the awesome tether straps from Minikid 4 Max, raise the headrest slightly and the product is complete. A rear facing seat which would dominate in the premium segment. #rearfacing #axkid #axkidone5
Axkid yesterday introduced ONE 4 which is a multi-stage or all-in-one seat. This has during the last few years (unfortunately) been the strongest growing segment of the market. 

Why do we say “unfortunately”? 99% of seats in this segment are nothing but crap. Almost always far too short rear facing time which means parents will turn kids forward years too early. Some of the multi-stage seats are also basically death traps which we’ve seen in testing by ADAC, etc.

The seat is basically a combination of ONE 3, UP and an ultra light infant seat with swivel. Rear facing to 125 cm, which is extremely important, and max weight of 21 kg. This means kids can usually stay rear facing to 6+ years.

ONE 4 will work from birth to around 10-12 years without large compromises. The seat is still extremely compact in rear facing mode with the same amazing adjustable leg space as ONE 3. When seat is turned forward it’s similar to the awesome booster UP.

Infant seat will be ultra light, in video a 3D-printed prototype. Price around €1K and with infant seat approx. €1.2k. #rearfacing #axkid #axkidone4
Axkid Minikid 4 Pro in a Volvo V60. Some say the car feels tight but I think there is plenty of space for kids and car seats. 

Lots of room up front for a tall adult and good leg space for child. As usual easy to install in Volvo thanks to the built in attachment loops.

Axkid ONE in a Skoda Octavia. Driver is an average male and I would describe leg space as quite good:-). 

Octavia is a popular family car and it's awesome to see how the brand has progressed. 20 years ago Skoda was crap and now they make great cars. 

No problem fitting three rear facing seats in back seat, two next to each other with a large adult or having one in front seat with airbag off. Infant seat in background as you can see right now not perfectly installed:-)

Axkid Minikid 4 Max and BeSafe Stretch in a VW Tiguan. Stretch already in place in back seat and new rear facing seat up front needed. 

Preference is Minikid 4 Max and we make sure that view in right side mirror is great. Attachment loops in front and rear make installation very quick. 

Extra long in the rear and long in the front. No lower straps needed, built in straps for both seats now hooked directly to loops. 

Minikid with 30-35 degree angle, airbag off and no angle adjuster needed. Stretch is installed firmer by pulling up support leg, pushing down and wiggling seat and then extending leg again. Now rock solid.

Axkid Minikid Pro in a VW ID.7. Very spacious and perfect for car seats. Almost feel like a waste with only one seat since several can fit without issues. 

Angle around 30-35 degrees and built in angle adjuster in position two. Good legroom for child and giant space up front. We could easily increase legroom for child with an additional 15 cm if needed. 

Tether straps attached under seat rails which works fine. Follow our detailed video for a VW Enyaq if you want to install attachment loops by yourself. Same installation in ID.7 with extra long loops in the back and long up front.

Attachment loops in the back of a Skoda Superb. Ultra-clean car with the nice light leather interior. 

In cars from Skoda we use extra long loops in the back and long up front. Installation is easy and can be done at home. Check out our previous videos for details. 

With attachment loops in place front seats can be move backwards without interference from tether straps. Installing your awesome rear facing seat with straps is now done extremely quickly.
