Today we are changing the harness on a Minikid 4 that has been attacked by mice. We are also looking at how to fix the harness in other models from Axkid. Unlucky situation with mice which isn’t covered by warranty or insurance. But it’s possible to change it yourself with some decent skills
In addition to selling car seats, we do a lot of work with service and repairs. Most things can be fixed at a small cost. We actually want to sell a brand new seat, but it is a huge waste to throw away a great rear facing seat due to a damaged part. Also satisfying to see a seat go from useless to new again.
When it comes to Axkid we have without exaggeration experience and knowledge that few others have. We handle all service and repairs for Axkid in Sweden and also in some other countries. Regardless of store purchased it will come to our workshop if there is a problem. This means that we know the seats incredibly well and have the spare parts needed. Good to know when you buy a new chair from us and a part unexpectedly breaks.
Virtually everyone in the industry hates installing and repairing seats. For some strange reason we feel different. Come on, of course it’s fun to install a seat rock solid. Or repair a seat for €50 so that parent can save €500.
Just like other manufacturers, difficulty of harness replacement varies depending on model. Everything from super easy to depressingly difficult. Below are some reflections from the workshop:
Minikid 1, 2 and 2022/23: Great! Put on some good music, pour a bottle of good wine and watch your seat become like new again. Simple tools and no difficult steps.
Minikid 3/4, Movekid, 4 Pro and 4 Max: This is today’s project and requires a little more focus. Just two glasses of wine. Not difficult to remove the bracket under the seat or the “plate”. A little cramped to thread the harness from the back and then through the chair.
ONE: The first replacement five years ago took forever but now it’s routine. Tricky to remove/replace black of seat. Attaching the harness on either side under the chair can be hell and requires special tools. Replacing the harness on ONE/ONE 2/ONE 3 should only be done in the workshop.
ONE 2: Easier than ONE as the mechanism on the back has been improved and the same applies to attaching the harness under the chair. Quite a nice repair.
ONE 3: More difficult than ONE 2. Not fun but we’re getting used to it. Requires special tools that can handle more force.
Spinkid/Spinkid 2: Don’t ask. Severe depression. Grab the Tequila.
