Thanks Mom and Dad!

rearfacing1967Rear facing, or rather extended rear facing, is becoming more and more common today.  But in many countries it’s still uncommon to see kids rear facing past 12 months, or even being in a car seat at all.  That’s why I’m so impressed with my parents and their car seat habits. When I was a kid I not only sat in a car seat, I sat rear facing as well.

During the 1960’s, car seat use and  habits were in it’s infancy. First car seat I know of, the Swedish seat “Klippan”, came out around 1965.  I was born in 1966 (I know I’m old….:-) and sat rear facing as a baby.  When my sister was born four years later she used the same seat.

I don’t know what made them put us in car seats that far back.  Maybe it was trendy and cool, I don’t think they were aware of the great habits they started building.  I have no memory of ever being in the awesome seat from Klippan but vaguely remember seeing my sister in it.

Maybe this why I’m subconsciously so interested in car seats?:-))  Anyway, thanks Mom and Dad for using a rear facing car seat!
